Please Excuse My Absence!

So, I've been thinking of things I want to write about, but this month has been crazy busy! Most of December on the blog has just been posts of item features and the Feature Friday posts because I wanted to keep something going through the month of December when I knew this would get hectic! But I'm trying to leave actual written content posts when I can!

Well, let me update you -

Feature Friday - Christmas Is In The Air Part 3!

Well, there is only 4 more days until Christmas! How busy is your Christmas every year? Ours is pretty booked - on Christmas Eve we have Christmas with my husband's family during the day, and at night we go and celebrate with my family. Then we head home, get some sleep (maybe) and start the next morning. A Christmas gathering at 10, 12, and 2ish. We usually get there around 2:30 or so. We try not to rush too much because it's the holidays and it's all about spending time with family, so we try to visit as much as possible, and then head to the next family gathering! Should be fun this year with an almost-2-year-old and a newborn.

Now, I know it's a bit late in the season to buy things online and have them in time for Christmas, but I wanted to continue on with the Christmas Is In The Air feature - so for this Friday, we are featuring Printables! You can purchase them and print them right from the luxury of your own home. Check them out, especially if you are hosting a gathering, because they are sure to make your gathering look just a little more festive!

If you love one of the pictures - go ahead and click them and it will take you directly to the listing on Etsy! (It will open up in a new window.)

End of the World?

Tomorrow is supposedly the end of the world.. How will we be spending our day?

Well, my husband will be going off to work, and I will be taking care of 2 cute little munchkins :) Then, when my husband gets home, he will also spend his time with 2 cute little munchkins. Some Christmas present making might be happening and some point during the night (no, all the presents are still not done lol) and then eventually, the crazy night time routine will begin!

Do you think the world will end?? And, how will you be spending your day??

Feature Friday - Christmas Is In The Air Part 2!

Only 11 more day's until Christmas! Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? Or have you even started Christmas Shopping yet? When I was younger (about 16 or 17) I loved heading out on Christmas Eve for shopping! Buying those last minute things, because my family gets together and exchanges gifts on Christmas Eve. It's always been a little tradition. Family presents on Christmas Eve, and then Santa came in the morning! It was always so busy and chaotic shopping on Christmas Eve though! That's why I loved it! Usually I had all the presents already bought for my family members, but I would go out and buy our dog some presents. Usually some tennis balls, and a bone or something she could eat. :)

Anyways, this Friday we continue on with "Christmas Is In The Air"! If you love one of the pictures - go ahead and click them and it will take you directly to the listing on Etsy! (It will open up in a new window.)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope you are spending a lot of time with friends and family, and filling up those bellies of yours with some delicious food!

This year I am thankful for my family - which is pretty common. But even so the last 2 Thanksgivings, since my younger brother passed away, I have been very thankful for them. In hard times, we've all stuck together and helped each other out when needed. That's what family is for right?

I found this lovely printable wall art on Etsy by BitsyCreations and thought I'd share it with you all for Thanksgiving! :)

Happy Thanksgiving and feel free to leave a comment with what you are thankful for this year! :)

Why You Should Have A Business Plan!

This is for all my fellow Entrepreneurs out there!

How many times have you had a great idea you wanted to act on, and the idea was just in your head - then weeks or months later, you're not any closer to achieving that great idea?

Or have you acted on a great idea, then realized, because you didn't do the research or plan it out very well, that it really wasn't that great of an idea?

Well, these are some of the reasons why I want to discuss why you should have a business plan! It's time to get out that notebook and pen and write it down!

Feature Friday - Finding The Undiscovered Part 3!

The holidays are drawing near, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, and then the prep for Christmas begins! My husband, son, and I head out to a couple Thanksgivings all within a couple hours of each other every year, so by the time we get home, we're definitely stuffed! But, since we go to a couple places on Thanksgiving, and after we got married I wanted to start having a Thanksgiving Family Feast for just our family, we actually have a little Thanksgiving feast here usually about a week after. It seems like A LOT of turkey for 2 (now 3, and soon 4) people, BUT, we freeze a lot of the turkey and come up with all kinds of different ways to use it. What kind of dish are you making to pass around at your Thanksgiving feast?

This is the last Friday before Thanksgiving, next Friday will be Black Friday! For this Friday we continue on with finding 10 sellers on Etsy who haven't really been discovered yet, and try to help them get discovered!

So on to our Featured Sellers!

It's Craft Show Time!

So, if you’re in the Frankenmuth, MI area on Saturday, you should definitely check out this craft show at:
Frankenmuth High School
Saturday,  November 17, 2012
10am to 4pm

My mom (owner of TKCT and All4Blythe) and I were on a waiting list for quite some time so we didn't think we would end up getting in. Well, lo and behold, on November 4th, we found out we had a table!

So, what have I been up to? Well, since I didn't think we would get in, I wasn't that prepared. When we were accepted, I realized how tiny my inventory really was! I've been trying to crochet as much as possible since that day (Nov 4) to make sure I had some kind of display!
Now I have a pretty decent inventory, and everything is priced and ready to go!

If you do stop by the show, make sure to find our table – everything is priced at a Show Special Price – at least 25% off! Also, some other great tables to check out – Puppets by Margie and CarvingbyTom

This is also the perfect opportunity to get some of that Christmas shopping done and support local artists by buying handmade!

My mom will be tending our table. I might not be able to be there due to my husband’s work schedule and having a 21-month-old to take care of, but if my husband ends up having the day off for some reason, I will definitely be there and would love to meet you! :)

Have a great rest of the week! And don't forget to check back tomorrow for Feature Friday

Sharing is Caring! - Hospice Dreams - "Dreams Are Ageless"

So, back in August, A very nice lady named Kamie contacted me about my crocheted double layered scrubbies. She told me Hospice Dreams was hosting their first annual Dreams are Ageless Golf Outing on September 24th to raise funds to grant Dreams in my area and across the Midwest. At the awards reception after the golf tournament they were going to hold a silent auction for all the donations. She loved my scrubbies and thought my work would be "an amazing contribution to our fundraiser". She was working on gathering a few items for a bathroom accessory basket and wanted to include one of my scrubbies in the basket.

I was honored to donate a scrubbie to this event. I told her not only would I provide a scrubbie, but I would also provide enough items for a kitchen gift basket as well. See, after losing my younger brother in September of 2011 to a tragic car accident, I was going to look into giving to the Make A Wish Foundation. I didn't even know about Hospice Dreams - and how could I not donate to something like that? To know I'm helping someone get one last dream before the end.

Feature Friday - The Family Feature!

So for this week, we are taking a break from Finding the Undiscovered - but no worries, we will continue on through the rest on November with them. :)

This week I wanted to share all the different shops my family has on Etsy. I come from a family that's all pretty creative, and all have a bit of entrepreneurial blood in them. My family has been my inspiration through all of this, and was gave me the idea of starting my own business in the first place. I always knew I wanted to do something business-related ever since I think about the 3rd grade, I just never knew what. Then my senior year in high school I wanted to be an accountant, and that's what sparked the idea of being my own boss. Well, after my first year taking classes, I then decided I wanted to go a completely different route and re-find my creative side. Where better to look for inspiration than from family who was already doing what I was dreaming of one day doing? Then, just this past year, I finally was able to recruit my husband into the world of Etsy as well! He's always supported me with my business endeavors, but it was really exciting when he decided to join the Etsy world too and now we can stay up talking about different business related things, ways to improve, and what we would like to do with our shops in the future. Anyways, that's just a little background. Here are the shops and a little bit about each of them!

It's National Hug A Bear Day!

So, I've just stumbled upon this news - today (November 7th) is Hug A Bear Day! Now, I'm not going to go out and look for a live bear to hug... but I found some adorable bears online!

The orange and blue bear are still available in All4Blythe's Etsy Shop!

And I absolutely love this Crocheted Koala Bear in NicolesCritters' shop! Koala's are my favorite bear! :)

We've all seen the Sock Monkeys, but what about the Sock Bear?? theRemakerie makes a range of perfect, plump little sock creatures with their own little sweaters!

And of course, what's Hug A Bear day without the classic teddy bear? Check out this lovely Handmade Classic Light Brown Teddy Bear from FifiStitch!

Happy National Hug A Bear Day!

Why Buy Handmade?

Well, I could say all day "Buy Handmade" but just saying those 2 words probably wouldn't influence most people. I want to explain WHY I think you should buy handmade products. You may not agree, and you may continue to shop where you normally do - but with this post, I may inspire even just one more person in the world to buy handmade products, and that is quite all right with me.

All it take sometimes is to find one more person - and after they are satisfied, they tell others. Out of the 25 people they may tell about their great new item, or experience, maybe only one of those 25 is inspired to buy handmade, just like the first person - and so that's one more person. 2 is still better than 0 right?

So why personally do I think you should buy handmade? Here's 5 reasons:

So for this week, my goal was to find 10 sellers on Etsy who haven't really been discovered yet, and try to help them get discovered! :)

National Dessert Day!

So, today is National Dessert Day! My family and I are snacking on some Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies, which are delicious; however, today I want to share a different recipe with you!

A couple weeks ago my someday sister-in-law came over for a girls night and we made these delicious Baked Pumpkin Doughnuts that she found on Pinterest!

Recipe: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2012/09/07/pumpkin-doughnuts-baked-to-perfection/

The only thing we did different, where it says "1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice, or 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon plus a heaping 1/4 teaspoon each ground nutmeg and ground ginger" we used the pumpkin spice, but then added some cinnamon in too. :)

Happy National Dessert Day! What are you indulging in???

Feature Friday! - The first of many!

So, I have been thinking of blog ideas... and while I am still thinking of what I want to do FOR SURE - one thing I would love to do is a Feature Friday post! I would love to find wonderful talented people selling on Etsy and feature them here to help them get found a bit, and tell their stories.

But, since this idea originally popped in my head this morning at 4am, I haven't had much time to prepare... So, I'm sharing this link with you.

https://www.facebook.com/MadisonStreetBeauty/posts/367680663314338

Madison Street Beauty was so kind as to include my shop in the "ETSY SHOP SHOUT OUT!" Go check out the post, share it, like it - just show some love :) And check out some of those great shops listed there! Plenty of wonderful gift ideas for the upcoming holidays!

And since I was included in the shout out - for this weekend I'm offering Free Shipping to all the U.S. customers! Just visit my Etsy shop, pick which awesome items you want today, and use coupon code: FREESHIP at checkout. :)

And also - on a side note - today is I Love Yarn Day - which, if you are following me on Twitter or Facebook - you're probably quite aware of this already! But I had to share just one more time :) Because I love yarn :) and can never seem to have enough! (so many !!!!!'s - that's how much I love it.)

And one more side note - I received a letter in the mail today about the donation to Hospice Dreams I mentioned in a previous post. I will be writing about that soon too!

Have an Awesome Day and don't forget to Be Stupendous!

Delicious Budget Friendly Cheese Steak Sandwiches for the Family!

So, as my husband and I were watching Best Food Ever on Netflix last night, we decided that we just had to have Cheese Steak sandwiches for dinner. This led to a quick trip to Kroger and we got some pretty good deals! (Gotta love Manager Specials). Even without manager specials though, this isn't very expensive to make, especially if you watch sales or have some of the ingredients sitting around already.

So, while making it, we decided to take a lot of pictures and share with you exactly what we do. Keep in mind, toppings are optional, the type of bread you use is optional, and the type of cheese is also optional! This is what we did though. :)

Ingredients:
Meat - We used Choice Beef Round Bottom Round Steak, but you can use any kind of steak you want really. My husband picked this steak for the marbleization.
Vegetable Oil
Salt
1 whole Green Pepper
1 whole Onion
About 5 White Whole Mushrooms
Mozzarella Cheese
Hoagie Buns
A1 Steak Sauce

And - Our food critic: Seth! (Our son - 19 months old)
He was patiently waiting for dinner to get done.

Went MIA!

Well, I made the original post and then went MIA! So, I will update you on what's been going on, and what you can see in the future.

Summer has come to an end... I hope you all enjoyed it! Seth (my 18 month old) LOVES the outdoors so we tried to get out when we could. :) Then there was the regular yearly festivities, Memorial Day Weekend Party, Fourth of July Party, Labor Day Weekend Party, some weddings, some friendly get-together's, and a lot of cookouts. It was enjoyable. :)

Also this summer, My husband opened his first Etsy store! That was exciting for both of us. :) You can check it out at the link here - Visual ReMix (don't worry, it will open a new window!) So now we enjoy sitting and talking about ways to optimize our shops, expand, etc.

Now that it's fall, we're preparing for the holiday season. I introduced the textured wash cloths in my shop already, and I have one more new item coming soon! (More on that at a later date) I also did a donation to Hospice Dreams, which I will make a blog post about after that event has happened (it takes place on September 24), and then I have just been working on expanding my current inventory.

So, be sure to come back in a bit, because I WILL be posting again for sure! I have some new things I want to share! For other updates, don't forget to check out Facebook and Twitter. And if you're a fan of Pinterest feel free to follow me there :) I keep finding lots of yummy recipes, organization ideas, and crafty little things! :)

Until Next Time!

Welcome to My New Blog!

Who I Am

Well, let me start by telling you Who I Am.

My name is Alicia and I am 25 years old. Simple enough. I am also a daughter, sister, wife, and mother. :) To me, the most important thing in life is my family. I have wonderful parents whom I look up to, and have always been there for me. I have 3 wonderful brothers, a wonderful husband, and a very cute, very active 15 (almost 16) month old with another due in December.

After my family, then comes my passion – making things, selling things, and business related things. I’m kind of a geek when it comes to business matters. I love reading things online about small business, going to seminars, and I even received my degree in Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship. As for making things, I like to dabble here and there with all kinds of crafty ideas, but my biggest passion is crochet. I can get so absorbed when making things and I absolutely love it! :)

The business end of it:
I started selling Home Decorating items in 2005, the fall after I graduated high school. This was to help fund my college expenses. Well, a couple years down the road when I started needle felting, my mom and I decided to let the business go. We decided we didn’t want to sell manufactured things anymore when we made high quality products ourselves. Who wouldn’t want to buy some high quality handmade products? So that was the end of the home decorating business.

In 2009, right before I got married, my husband and I decided it was time for me to resign from my position at an insurance agency, and fulfill my dream of being a successful entrepreneur, so after our wedding in May, I left the end of June.

Since this time, I have dabbled a lot with so many different items, then, when I was pregnant with my son, I couldn’t needle felt anymore. The motion of the needle felting actually made me feel sick… So, I needed to find something else to do to pass the time. That’s when I re-found crochet. I had actually made wash clothes to have as little gifts for at my baby shower. After seeing how much the guests did actually love them, I decided to start Own Something Awesome, which has led me to where I am today. :)

Why Am I Blogging & What Am I’m Blogging About?

I decided I wanted to start a blog to post interesting things I find. I find all these great products on Etsy from all kinds of sellers, but sometimes, people just have no where to have their stories told. Well, I want to help. I want to find some of the new sellers, or even some old sellers, who really haven’t completely been FOUND yet. I want to hear their stories, and I want to share those stories with you!

I also want to blog about any interesting DIY projects, free patterns, etc.

Another topic is living more self-dependently from the corporate world in a way. Just trying not to depend on going to the store to buy every single thing I am going to use or consume. Examples would be gardening, canning and storing, making your own such and such (laundry detergent recipes), things like that. :)

How Can You Leave Feedback?

Feel free to leave comments! I love comments and hearing from my audience! J If you have an interesting story or something you feel I should include in a blog entry, send me a comment or e-mail me! You can email me at ownsomethingawesome@gmail.com and I look forward to hearing from you!
